Over the past twenty years we have been involved in the checking of many £ billions of costs applied for under contracts which attempt to drive a collaborative approach such as The NEC suite.
We have always attempted to bring a collaborative approach to the reviews we have undertaken.
We have sought to provide continuous improvement and learning to avoid issues which may cause problems in the future rather than attempting to demonstrate “value” by finding overcharges.
Where things have gone wrong, and costs have been misstated our approach has been to understand the reason why the problem has occurred. It could be a misunderstanding of the contract, a problem with the design of internal financial controls or a simple human error. Once we understand the root cause we work with both parties to agree actions to avoid any future problems.
By helping parties to learn from their mistakes and monitoring the implementation of actions we are able to demonstrate that we find less and less over the course of a project.
