It was lovely to welcome Beckie Jane and James Allen as our interns.
Since her placement Beckie has returned to Loughborough University to complete her final year of a Management Science degree. We wish Beckie all the success in her final year.
Here is what Beckie said about her time with us.
“I applied for work experience at The Orange Partnership whilst working towards my A ‘levels. I was studying Economics and Maths and was keen to get some work experience which would help me develop my excel and analysis skills.
In particular the excel skills I learnt, including how to use pivot tables, x lookup and what-if functions, helped me secure my placement at L’Oréal. I spend a lot of my time now as an Intern putting them into practice, compiling and analysing weekly sales figures from all the retail outlets. I was really pleased to be given Harvey Nichols as my own account to manage a few months ago.I really enjoyed working for The Orange Partnership, and it’s interesting comparing such a lean, consultancy business to working for a massive global organisation like L’Oréal. Obviously, there are pro’s and con’s to each. For example TOP doesn’t offer an inhouse gym or provide a goody bag of high end cosmetics and luxury fragrances when you join (there’s an idea though!) but it more than makes up for that in other ways. It’s got a great vibe, is very positive and challenging in a good way which makes you think hard about your own assumptions, and the people are really pleased to share what they know. It was great work experience. Thank you very much Orange”.
Since his placement, James has graduated with an MA in Quantity Surveying. Many congratulations James and we wish you all the luck in your future career.
“I applied for work experience at The Orange Partnership because Maths was one of my A ‘levels and at the time I was interested in accountancy as a career. However, what I found fascinating during my time there was not so much the actual tasks I was involved in, but more learning about the big construction projects like Hinkley Point C which Darren and the team were working on.
It was so valuable to discover that whilst accountancy wasn’t for me, being pretty OK at maths and genuinely interested in major projects meant that training to be a QS could be a good option. I was grateful for the support of Darren and also David Bowen which helped me form my ideas about my future career choice. I’m now at Hallam studying for my MA in Quantity Surveying and thoroughly enjoying it. All the talk about NEC contract clauses finally makes sense!”
