Last Friday, Darren Ward and Eugenie Phillips from The Orange Partnership had the pleasure of visiting Fir Tree primary school in Newbury.
For the past five years, we have been supporting this amazing school as part of our “Making Numbers Fun” initiative, and this was our first opportunity to visit in person and see for ourselves the difference the resources we’ve bought have made.
During the visit, Darren presented seven “TOP Resilience in Maths” awards to some very worthy and delighted winners. He also launched our new “Mathletes” award, which will be given out weekly to a pupil or class who deserves it most.
In addition to handing out the awards, the Head Teacher requested Darren talk about “maths in the real world” and explain what The Orange Partnership does. Although this was a challenging task, considering the average age of the audience was 8 years old, Darren made it engaging with the help of a hard hat, toy crane, and lots of audience participation. The session went surprisingly well.
Afterwards, Darren reflected, “To be honest, it was very humbling. We visited several classes and saw the maths teaching aids we have bought in use. The children were very engaged and clearly benefiting massively.”
